The Dimensity 9400 is here to challenge Qualcomm

MediaTek today announced the Dimensity 9400, its latest-generation flagship chipset featuring the best CPU and graphics performance on a mobile chipset.

With just weeks to go until Qualcomm unveils the next Snapdragon chip, MediaTek has beat its local competitor to market, not just in the announcement but in a device. We expect Vivo to announce its new X200 series with the Dimensity 9400 next week before Qualcomm takes to the stage the following week.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 is built on TSMC's second-generation 3nm process (N3E) and continues MediaTek's trend of using the big.LITTLE architecture in its chip designs. Its super-performance Cortex-X925 core runs at 3.63 GHz and is paired with three performance cores (Cortex-X4 at 3.3 GHz). For lower-power tasks and to maximize efficiency, four Cortex-A720 cores are clocked at 2.4 GHz.

The Dimensity 9400 boasts big numbers that lead to even faster performance and best-ever battery life.

MediaTek is excited about the gains provided by the new processor, which is expected to deliver gains of 35% in single-core, and 28% in multi-core performance. The gains also extend to the graphics unit, with big improvements in overall performance (41%), ray tracing (40%), and power efficiency (44%). All of this means fast performance and great battery life.

There are plenty of other improvements, including in AI with the NPU 890 consuming up to 35% less power than its predecessor. The NPU also delivers up to 80% faster performance in LLM prompts, which should inspire a range of new AI features on smartphones.

Stay tuned for lots more on the Dimensity 9400 in the coming months. This past year proved to be a breakout year for MediaTek, which finally broke into the flagship market in the US. Samsung's new Galaxy Tab S10 series is exclusively powered by the previous-generation Dimensity 9300 Plus, which delivers excellent performance and strong battery life.

The Dimensity 9400 is likely to keep up this tradition, and we can't wait to see what devices are announced over the coming months.
